WHERE TO BUY YOUR TACKLE

What rod and reel is best suited for me? I’m not so sure, that’s why I have as many as I do. Remember the Mitchell #300 reel? There wasn’t any reel that could compare to it. Today there are so many different styles and quality reels that choosing one is a major task.

When I visit a discount tackle shop I can almost always tell when a customer doesn’t know what he needs while browsing to purchase a rod and reel combo. (They think they do!) I like to observe the way they handle the rod and how they pick what they think will be best for them. First they hold the rod by the handle and shake it. I guess if the rod shakes it’s a good rod. They shake it a few more times and then they place it in the shopping cart. The reel is selected by spinning the handle and checking how many times it spins. Hey it’s a spinning reel so why not spin it!!! Yep! in the shopping cart it goes. They have their rod and reel combo; and now for some tackle. I don’t hang around for that I hope they get what’s needed. I’m not belittling these people because they don’t know what they need. I’m sure they don’t even know where to fish or what specie. I would be glad to help these people purchase a rod, reel and tackle if they would ask but I don’t work there.

What I would like to do is tell them to go to a local tackle shop where they will receive the assistance they need. You never know who you are talking to so it’s best to mind your own business. You can find some items cheaper and on sale at those discount stores but you better know what you are buying. Don’t ask the clerk where to go fishing or what bait to use because most of them don’t even fish. If you need live bait or chum or up to date fishing information I suggest you go to your local tackle shop. You can also get your rod and reels repaired for just a few bucks or you can purchase the rod and reel that will satisfy your needs.

I suggest you see George of George’s Rod Shop in checking out rod for specific type of fishing and if you need a reel or tackle ask John of JR Tackle. George and John will be at the P.S.G. Fishing & Boating Flea Market this weekend (19th and 20th). There may be other qualified dealers who can assist you but these guys are local and members of this group.

HAPPY SHOPPING!!!
