Gold is where you find it...By: Joe Spiegel Years ago, in fact far more than I care to remember, while bass fishing not far from out launching ramp my father was somewhat perturbed over the number of boats coming from across the river and fishing near us blurted out; GOLD IS WHERE YOU FIND IT. Not being sure of what he meant, I had to ask. He pointed to five boats fishing nearby and intensely resounded. See those blank – blank boats over there, the ones from the north shore fishing our side and look across the river at the boats fishing the south shore, well those boats dock on this side. His point never really got through for some time, however, before the day was over it did. Think about it, how often do we pass over productive fishing areas for locations that we perceive to be better? What is that saying? Simply stated, the grass is not always greener across the bay, up the bay or down the bay. The next time you head for Pooles Island or south of the Bay bridges, stop and think about the fish you are passing by. For example, this year a lot of anglers never took advantage of the excellent availability of trout at the mouth of the Magothy and just inside Dolly’s lump. THINK ABOUT IT: FISH ARE WHERE YOU FIND THEM |
